Step 1
Go to Google.com with your browser to see the Google Search text box.
Step 2
Click on the "Advanced Search" link at the right edge of the Google search text box to take you to the advanced search page. Scroll down to the header on the left titled "Search within a site or domain.” Enter the URL of the website that you wish to search within. The prefix (www) may be left out but be sure to include the suffix, such as ".com," ".net" or ".edu" because sometimes different websites have the same name but a different suffix.
Step 3
Enter the search term string. Go back up to the top of the webpage and enter your search terms into boxes. "All these words" means that the webpage must contain each of these words. "This exact wording or phrase" means that the webpage must contain that exact phrase. "One or more of these words" means that the webpage must contain at least one of these words. "Any of these unwanted words" means that the webpage must not contain any of these words. This search satisfies most user needs.
Step 4
Enter options. These options are for specific searches, depending on what the user is looking for. Enter a file type using the drop-down menu titled "File type," if a specific document format is sought. Use the date drop-down menu to choose the age of the webpage desired.
Step 5
Enter the search location. These options tell Google exactly where to search for search terms on the website URL. Use the "Where your keywords show up" drop-down menu to choose anywhere in the page, in the title of the page, in the text of the page, in the URL of the page or in links to the page. Google will search these exact page locations of the URL for the search terms previously entered.
Step 6
Perform the advanced search. Once all of the above search options have been entered click the "Advanced Search" button to perform the search. Change the options and search terms if the results are not satisfactory until you find what you need.
